MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Due to two COVID cases in the building, New Monmouth Elementary School will continue to remain all-virtual through Tuesday, October 13, Middletown schools superintendent Mary Ellen Walker announced Wednesday in this letter home to parents.

This comes after there were two confirmed COVID cases at the elementary school last week.

There have also been confirmed COVID cases at Middletown High School North (1) and River Plaza Elementary School (1) and several at Nut Swamp Elementary. Someone on the Middletown South football team also tested positive; the case originated off school grounds.

"The case at High School North is epidemiologically linked to a previously reported case in
the building, and the individual has not been in the school since exposure occurred," said Walker. "The case at River Plaza has been linked to a source outside the school, and the individual has not been in the building since being exposed."

Walker said the district was unable to find any link between the two New Monmouth cases, which occurred within 14 days of each other, and is keeping the school entirely closed because of that, as a precaution.
