NWS Earle Will Do Harbor Training Exercises This Tuesday

They will be firing blank ammunition in Sandy Hook Bay. Communities that will hear it include Leonardo, Atlantic Highlands and Middletown.

LEONARDO, NJ — Naval Weapons Station Earle (NWS Earle) will conduct harbor protection exercises from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the waters of Sandy Hook Bay surrounding the Navy’s pier in Leonardo.

The exercises will involve marked U.S. Navy harbor patrol boats and sentry towers conducting training with and firing blank ammunition in Sandy Hook Bay in the vicinity of the NWS Earle Waterfront Restricted Area.

The local communities which may be affected by the noise of the blank ammunition include Leonardo, Atlantic Highlands, Belford, Middletown and Sandy Hook National Park. As a reminder, the waters surrounding the NWS Earle Pier are a restricted area.

The exercises are designed to enhance the training and readiness of harbor security forces. The training is not in response to any specific threat but is regularly scheduled.

The Marine Security Zone is shown on navigational charts for Lower New York Harbor and are patrolled by armed Navy Security Forces. Violators will be prosecuted.
