NY/NJ Baykeeper’s fleet of pumpout boats are now servicing Jamaica Bay, Sheepshead Bay, Sandy Hook Bay, Raritan Bay, the Shrewsbury River, and the Navesink River. These waterways fall victim to pollution due to the large number of recreational boats using the waterways.
With increased use of the water by recreational boaters, raw sewage pollution has become a serious problem. Discharging raw sewage into the water can causes algae blooms, which deplete the oxygen in the water causing fish to die.
