The vandalism started in the summer and hasn't stopped: Slurs are spray painted, glass and lights are broken, said police.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Vandalism and criminal mischief have been occurring for more than a month now at the AT&T Labs corporate complex on Laurel Avenue in Middletown, said Middletown police.

The vandalism started in the summer and continued into the fall: A witness said slurs have been spray painted, lights and exit signs have been broken and torn down, and glass windows have been broken in the parking structures and stairwells.

Middletown police are investigating the criminal mischief there, said police spokesman Det. Lt. Paul Bailey, but so far no arrests have been made.

The AT&T Labs sites is located at 200 Laurel Avenue in Middletown. The facility used to hold hundreds of workers, but now has a skeleton staff on site.

It appears to be mostly local teens who come to the site at night and on weekends, said the witness. The damage is always worse on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The vandals break things off the parking garages and toss them over the side, and also spray the parked AT&T vans using fire extinguishers.
