Sandy Hook's North Beach Closed Aug. 27-31

Sandy Hook North Beach or "I Beach" will be closed Aug. 27 to Aug. 31, the National Park Service announced.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — Sandy Hook North Beach or "I Beach" will not have lifeguards Aug. 27 to Aug. 31, the National Park Service announced. You can still go to the beach there, but no lifeguards will be present, so the National Park Service advises against going in the water.

The lifeguards will be back on staff for the weekend and Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2, and 3.

As Patch reported, last July, 2017, a 12-year-old girl drowned while swimming at Sandy Hook. She died while swimming on a beach where there were lifeguards present.
