Oceanport, NJ- May 29, 2014- Students participated in a Service Animal Convocation, at Monmouth Park, and learned about careers involving animals, the services animals provide and animal care. The New Jersey Shore Consortium for the Gifted and Talented organized the trip on behalf of the Gifted and Talented student population it serves in Monmouth County. Students were treated to a tram tour of the Monmouth Park facility, a session with ten companion animals and their owners which was organized by the Monmouth County SPCA, and students met with the Marlboro K-9 Unit, led by Lt. Tomazic. A local veterinarian, Dr. Simon-Feeney, introduced students to necessary first aid care for animals and interesting equine factoids.
A convocation provides motivated and high-achieving students from smaller districts the opportunity to learn and collaborate with similar students from other districts throughout the county. All presenters for the convocation volunteered their time to assist in this priceless educational venture. We would like to offer a special thank-you to Monmouth Park Management and Staff.
