Sharks Spotted Off Jersey Shore Beach, Cops Say [VIDEO]

A school of sharks was spotted off a Jersey Shore beach on Tuesday, police said.

A school of sharks was spotted off the Jersey Shore on Tuesday.

At least four sharks were spotted swimming off Monmouth Beach, and local police shared a video of the scene (see below).

There were no swimmers at Monmouth Beach at the time of the sighting, and the Monmouth Beach beaches were open to swimmers on Wednesday.

But it was the first time in weeks that any sharks — after making such a splash last year — have made an appearance off the Jersey Shore.

Indeed, several sections of the Coney Island beach were closed Tuesday because of shark sightings.

At least person is casting doubt on the Monmouth Beach shark report, however.

Peter Jaffe, a Princeton University professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, said he saw mating sting rays in nearby Belmar and "I seriously doubt hey were sharks."
