Yes, the wind blew in February and the snow fell in March but…February also brought the 16th Annual New Jersey Flower and Garden Show to the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison and March brought the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Flower Show to the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

In New Jersey, the theme was “A Magical Adventure”, featuring spectacular and unique garden displays inspired by the most magical place on earth—Disney World! And, of course, the Garden Club of New Jersey presented the Standard Flower Show along with competitions in horticulture and artistic floral arranging. Inspiration awaited all who attended.

In Pennsylvania, in March, with a theme of “Wonders of Water”, thousands of people, gardeners of all backgrounds were drawn in to enjoy elaborate displays of floral arrangements from the area’s most inventive gardeners (including many from New Jersey).

Garden Club R.F.D., a member of the Garden Club of New Jersey, will continue the presentation of a Flower Show by having “Spring Fling”, a Small Non Standard Flower Show on April 17th at the Middletown Arts Center at 36 Church Street in Middletown. With free parking across from the Center, and a free flower show, the public is invited to join us from 11:30am to 1 pm.

Hopefully, as you attend, your senses will awaken from their winter hibernation to become excited once again about what you can achieve with your gardening at home. As the weather becomes friendlier toward our efforts, we’ll be able to work with Mother Nature to create floral landscapes more pleasing to our eyes.

In addition to Flower Shows, the Garden Club of New Jersey sponsors four schools that are open to the public as well as garden club members across the state. Presented at Holly House at Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick, you will be taught by experts in floral design, horticulture and other areas. The next school, following up the recent flower shows is Flower Show School on May 2 and 3. For full details and to register for the upcoming School, go to www.gardenclubofnewjersey.com.
