Suicide Attempt In Union Beach Police Parking Lot, Police Say

An emotionally agitated Keansburg man, in an apparent suicide attempt, collided with several patrol cars at Union Beach police HQ Sunday.

UNION BEACH, NJ — An emotionally disturbed man from Keansburg stormed into the Union Beach police headquarters parking lot Sunday afternoon, barreling into several patrol cars in what police are saying was an apparent suicide attempt.

"Earlier this afternoon we had an emotionally disturbed derson (EDP) drive through the parking lot of Union Beach police headquarters," Union Beach police said in a statement. "The Keansburg man, in an apparent suicide attempt, collided with several patrol cars in the parking lot, causing significant damage to at least two police vehicles."

No officers were in the cars, and there are no reported injuries at this time. Union Beach officers on duty were able to de-escalate the situation, and eventually got the man safely transported for medical attention without further incident.

He was charged with defiant trespass and criminal mischief, along with other motor vehicle offenses.
