Vacancy Opens Up on Middletown Board of Education

Middletown, NJ - With last week's abrupt resignation of Board member Helene Henkel, a new vacancy has opened up on the Middletown Board of Education. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to submit their name and resume or letter of interest. Henkel quit July 26, saying the Middletown Board of Ed. is "deeply fractured and dysfunctional ... I know people are busy and it's difficult to attend. But as long as people aren’t witnessing what's going on (the board) will continue to operate undercover."

Middletown Township Board of Education Vacancy

The Middletown Township Board of Education is seeking interested Middletown Township citizens who meet the legal requirements to serve on the Board of Education. Legal requirements for becoming a member of a local board of education are:

• An ability to read and write.

• Citizenship and one year’s residence in the district.

• No interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board.

• Not hold office as mayor or member of the governing body of the same district.

• Registered to vote in the district and not disqualified as a voter under N.J.S.A. 19:4-1.

Interested citizens are required to submit a resume and/or letter of interest to Amy P. Gallagher, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, Middletown Township Board of Education, 834 Leonardville Road, Leonardo, NJ 07737, or P.O. Box 4170, Middletown, NJ 07748, stating their desire to serve on the board and their qualifications for the position. Submissions must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. The Board of Education will make the appointment for an unexpired term that terminates at the Board’s January 2018 re-organization meeting.

This is in addition to the 7 candidates who are running for Middletown Board of Education. That election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8. These people are running for three-year regular terms on the board. They are:
