Crashes on Rt. 35 and Rt. 36 Sunday In Middletown
A van overturned near Kohl's Sunday, and its driver was airlifted from the High School North parking lot. There was also a motorcycle crash.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A van overturned on Highway 35 Sunday, and its driver was trapped and had to be rescued and then airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. These photos are from first responders on the scene.
The accident happened at 4:09 p.m. Sunday on Rt. 35 before the intersection of Woodland Drive (in front of Kohl's), according to Bob Pfleger, public information officer for Middletown EMS. The van had overturned after hitting a telephone pole, and the driver was trapped inside, Middletown police said. The person was extricated by Community Fire Company and transported to Middletown High School North by Port Monmouth First Aid, and MONOC paramedics. From there, he was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by MONOC 1's medivac. The driver was the only occupant, and was in serious condition.

Also on Sunday, at about 5 p.m., a motorcycle got into a crash on Highway 36 near the intersection of Sears Avenueby the Navesink Fishery. The motorcycle struck a tree limb that had fallen across both of the westbound lanes. The driver and his passenger, neither of whom are being identified at this time, both received injuries.

They were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Fairview First Aid Squad and Leonardo First Aid Squad with the assistance of MONOC paramedics.
