Wildfire Drill At Sandy Hook Saturday, Nov. 4

Don't be alarmed if you see a large number of emergency vehicles this Saturday, Nov. 4 at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area​.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ — Don't be alarmed if you see a large number of emergency vehicles this Saturday, Nov. 4 at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area.

The National Park Service and the NJ Forest Fire Service are hosting an emergency drill Saturday, Nov. 4 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sandy Hook, particularly in and around the Ft. Hancock section. Visitors should not be alarmed to see a large number of fire trucks and first responders Saturday in the area. Visitors should also expect short-term closures of roads or trails in Sandy Hook.

NPS and NJ Forest Fire Service staff will train and drill with multiple municipal fire departments and agencies that would respond to a large wildfire. This drill is intended to improve collaboration among all participants, especially the surrounding fire departments that provide mutual aid to Sandy Hook.
