Car Found In Millburn After Being Taken From Newark, And Other Police Reports
The police recovered two stolen vehicles and pursued several break-ins in Millburn in the second half of March. Get the rundown below.
MILLBURN, NJ — The Millburn police recovered two stolen cars during the second half of March, and investigated the burglaries of others. Here are the reports:
Stolen Cars
On March 19, Millburn Police Officer Kerwien located a stolen 2021 Hyundai Elantra. The car had been stolen from Newark and was now was parked in the parking lot of The Upton, 1 Fineran Way, police said. The vehicle was impounded and the theft remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau, police say.

The next day, at 12:52 a.m., Officer Lyons observed a dark colored BMW X3 traveling at a high rate of speed on South Orange Avenue, police said. The investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from an Elmwood Road residence earlier that evening and the key fob was left in the vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in Maplewood, police said.

Later that day, Millburn Police Officers Ford and Dalakian took reports of burglary to auto on Kenilworth Drive and Lawrence Drive. Detectives Salemi and Mendelsohn responded to both scenes to investigate. With assistance of the Kearny Police Department, Millburn Detectives were able to identify two suspects, they said.
They investigated and arrested Daniel Chipelo, 19, of Mount Carmel, Pa., and Jason Cathcart,
20, of Kearny, they said. Chipelo was charged with burglary and conspiracy and taken to Essex County Correctional Facility. Cathcart was charged with burglary and later released on his own recognizance. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Detective Bureau.
Two Purses Stolen
On March 24, at 6:35 pm, Officer Carroll responded to Par 440, on Parsonage Hill
Road, on a report of burglary to motor vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone broke the window of an Audi Q5 and stole two purses from the vehicle. They also tried to break the
window on another adjacent vehicle, police said.
On March 27, at 10:40 a.m., Officer Dalakian responded to a 187 Millburn Ave. on a report of attempted burglary to a motor vehicle. Read more about that here.
