Essex County Cop Accused Of Leaking Info To Drug Dealers
A sheriff's officer interfered with massive drug bust "Operation TIDE," prosecutors allege.

An Essex County Sheriff’s officer has been accused of aiding a drug dealing ring by tipping suspects off with insider information about police investigations.
On Thursday, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced that it is pursuing charges against Robert Andrews, 28 of Union, a former Newark police officer who was hired in 2012 after being laid off.
According to prosecutors, Andrews gave sensitive information to suspects under investigation as part of Operation TIDE, a massive Essex County drug investigation that resulted in 48 arrests.

The leaked information included the identifications of police officers involved in the investigation, NJ.com reported.
Andrews is charged with hindering an investigation, and 4th degree obstructing administration of law.

He was suspended without pay on July 2.
