Ex Football Player Trains His Brain

Cognitive brain training isn't only for students struggling in school. Athletes can benefit from brain training too!

Original Story by Ben Gotz of the Associated Press

Ben Utecht, former University of Minnesota tight end, has a strict workout regimen for his brain. 3-4 days a week Utecht engages in brain training sessions, at LearningRx, that last 1 hour and 35 minutes each. During these sessions, Utecht’s cognitive skills are challenged while he is placed under pressure to perform a series of activities that literally changes his brain.

As a former athlete who has experienced at least 5 documented concussions, Utecht is counting on LearningRx to strengthen his long-term memory, among other cognitive skills. LearningRx is a nation-wide brain training program, dedicated to increasing the cognitive skills of all individuals experiencing cognitive difficulties. Think issues with processing speed (how quickly you receive information), long and short-term memory, visualization skills, etc. LearningRx can help people of all different ages and backgrounds, from students to career adults, and even senior citizens.

After taking LearningRx’s initial cognitive assessment based on the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities, Utecht discovered that his long-term memory was in the 17th percentile. In 20 weeks, after those series of intense brain workouts 3-4 times a week for 1 hour and 35 minutes each, Utecht took the post-test. His long-term memory scored in the 98th percentile--a testament to his hard work and the gains that can be achieved at LearningRx.
