Good News For Taxpayers: Millburn To Get More State Aid For Schools

Local property taxes are influenced by the state aid for schools. Essex County got the largest aid increase of all NJ counties.

MILLBURN, NJ — Among counties in New Jersey, Essex County will get the most aid under the next education budget from Gov. Phil Murphy's administration, which is good news for taxpayers in Millburn/Short Hills.

New Jersey's pre-K to 12 schools will get $19.2 billion in total in the fiscal year 2023 budget.

Millburn/Short Hills will tentatively get $5,502,303 in aid, or a 21.88 percent increase.

When residents pay property taxes, it goes to their city, county, and schools. Their local school budget — made up largely of state aid, federal aid, and taxes for the rest — influences how much they must contribute.

In Essex County, only Nutley will get less aid next year than this year.
