Leaf Collection Is Ongoing in Millburn-Short Hills

The piles of leaves have been mounting along Millburn-Short Hills streets as leaf collection season has been here for about a month.

Workers will continue to collect leaves through the end of the year, but there's a specific schedule to when each zone will be collected. Residents should have received a magnet schedule, which they must keep for the next two years. Leaves will be picked up three times per zone.

On the green day on the schedule, residents are to put leaves on their streets in long, low piles a little off the curb. Leaves are not to be placed on the street on the orange days on the schedule, which is when leaves will be collected.

Those who do not follow the rules can face a fine of $500 on the first offense, $750 on the second offense and $1,250 on any further offenses.

Leaves in biodegradable bags can be placed on the street on the green days or for the first trash collection day of the week.

Those who live on county roads will have their leaves picked up twice by county workers—Nov. 22-26 and Dec. 20-24. Residents on those roads can bring their leaves to the curb the weekend before the collection week.
