MHS Winter Band Concert Is Wednesday

The concert includes students in the regional and all-state bands.

The Music Department will hold its annual Winter Band Concert on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The concert is free. Ensembles are under the direction of Mindy Scheierman and Matthew Spatz.

This concert will open with the Concert Band, an ensemble of ninth grade musicians, performing "Liadov Fanfare" by Brian Beck and additional works by Philip Sparke and Todd Stalter.

The Wind Ensemble, an advanced ensemble of accelerated level band students grades nine-12, will perform works by Jan Van der Roost and Frank Ticheli.

Two separate symphonic bands, comprised of musicians in grades 10-12, will perform works by Edwin Franko Goldman, Brian Balmages, Frank Erickson and Julie Giroux.

The concert will also feature the 17 students accepted to the 2011 North Jersey Region I Bands and the five students accepted to the 2011 New Jersey All State Band.

"The students have worked at such a high level and are excited to present this concert to the public.  It will prove to be another enjoyable evening of music at MHS," said Scheierman in a press release.
