Millburn, Schools And Snow Days: What Effect Did The Storm Have?

The Millburn School District has used its three built-in snow days, its superintendent says. What does that mean for the school calendar?

MILLBURN, NJ — It’s been a tough week for weather in the Millburn Public School District. But the flurry of recent closures will also give local students and parents a blow this spring when the district will be forced to use Friday, April 13 as a school day.

On Friday, March 9, Millburn Superintendent Christine Burton sent the following email update to local parents and guardians:

“Thank you for your patience and understanding during this very difficult weather week. I know many of you are without power, and your streets may still be impassable. While I would have liked to have been able to open school, at least today, we rely on the expert advice of Millburn’s Office of Emergency Management who confirmed that road conditions would not be safe for our students, residents and staff. I hope there will be much improvement over the weekend for all of you.”

Burton added:

“We have now used our three built-in snow days, and one additional day, which means we will need to use Friday, April 13 as a school day. If we have any more snow days, we will work backward from there.”
