Three accomplished athletes, Andrew Heo, Kristen Santos Griswold, and Clayton DeClement, spent time with students sharing their personal journeys and what it truly means to represent Team USA on the Olympic stage. They spoke about how they first discovered the sport, what inspired them to take that first step onto the ice, and the dedication required to compete at the highest level.

The experience was interactive and engaging from start to finish. Students had the opportunity to see the athletes’ skates and uniforms up close and even joined in by holding a speed skater pose for the full length of one of their races. During the question and answer sessions, students asked thoughtful questions and were eager to learn more about training, competition, and the mindset of an Olympian.

The visit offered more than just a glimpse into Olympic competition. It gave students a meaningful look at perseverance, goal setting, and the pride that comes with representing something larger than themselves.

U.S. Speedskating’s tour prioritizes visits to schools and local clubs, giving students across the country access to firsthand experiences from Olympic athletes while promoting the Olympic movement and inspiring the next generation.

Millburn Township Public Schools extends its sincere thanks to Lixia Wu for organizing the school visits in coordination with principals Heather Fiory and Dr. Anne Richardson.
