Person Struck By Transit Train In Millburn Was Juvenile (UPDATED)

A NJ Transit train struck a male juvenile around 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, the agency said.

MILLBURN, NJ — A male juvenile was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train near Millburn Station on Tuesday around 5:15 a.m., the agency said.

While initial messages from the agency listed the person as a pedestrian, the agency said later in the day that the victim was a "male juvenile" but could not give the person's age or town of residence.

Senior Public Information Officer Emma Wright said Tuesday afternoon that they had not gotten more information from police at that time.

Schools in the closest town, Millburn, were closed until Thursday.

On Friday evening, Millburn Superintendent of Schools Christine Burton said in her weekly newsletter, "I want to express our sincere condolences to the family of the senior student we lost this week. On behalf of the family, we ask that everyone respect their privacy, and we know the thoughts and prayers of our entire school community are with them in this difficult time."
