Report: Squirrel Caused Power Outage

A squirrel was electrocuted while walking on a wire, according to a fire department report.

A squirrel was the cause of a power outage in the Millburn Avenue and Spring Street area on Saturday morning.

Millburn firefighters responded to the intersection Saturday at just after 7 am. to find the primary wire had broke, according to a department report. A squirrel was walking on the wire when it was electrocuted, which caused the wire to break, according to the report.

Jersey Central Power & Light responded to the scene and restored power. Police Capt. James Miller said the outages were scattered and affected areas included the 500 block of Millburn Avenue and the Glenwood section. The longest outage time was about four hours.
