MILLBURN, NJ - Following an increase in reports concerning door-to-door canvassing, the Township is suggesting residents register for Millburn’s Do Not Knock list.

To add your name and address to the list, please register at bit.ly/noknockmillburnand visit Customer Service in Town Hall to pick up a Do Not Knock decal the blue and white "Do Not Knock Sticker" will help ward off unwanted guests, officials said. The catch is residents must be registered to receive a decal.

As a reminder to residents, canvassers must have proper licensing issued by the Township of Millburn on hand when soliciting. Licensed solicitors may not approach residents on the Do Not Knock List.

If you have registered for the Do Not Knock List and have your decal properly displayed on your property, solicitors may be found in violation of the Township of Millburn Ordinance no. 2526-19 and subject to legal action, officials said.

There are, however, businesses that are registered exceptions:

In addition to joining the Do Not Knock list, the Township of Millburn advises residents who are concerned about the manner in which they have been solicited to reach out directly to the companies in question and/ or file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or Division of Consumer Affairs.

Officials note that canvassing and solicitation regulations do not apply to political candidates or any religious, charitable, civic, political, veteran or fraternal organization or association, service club, volunteer fire or first aid company.
