Source of White Substance in Culvert Not Found

Millburn firefighters could not find the source of a milky white substance in a culvert on Old Short Hills this week, but they flushed the area.
Firefighters traced the substance on Tuesday from near 357 Old Short Hills Road via the sewer system to a manhole at Old Short Hills Road and Fairfield Terrace, according to a Millburn Fire Department report. In consulting with the Nutley HazMat team and the state Department of Environmental Protection, they flushed the area with water from the engine.

Injuries were reported in two car crashes reported the last week.
Millburn firefighters responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 24 east at the merge with Route 78 in Springfield on Wednesday at about 5:45 a.m., according to a fire department report. The driver was out of his overturned Jeep when firefighters arrived at the scene. They requested an ambulance to respond to tend to the driver's injuries. Millburn firefighters were released from the scene when the Springfield Fire Department arrived.

The driver of a Ford Explorer that rolled over on Route 124 was taken to the hospital on Sunday evening, according to a fire department report. His vehicle rolled over at the entrance to John F. Kennedy Parkway near the Mall at Short Hills.
The driver had removed himself from the vehicle before firefighters arrived, and he had a cut on his left forearm, according to the report. Firefighters bandaged and dressed the wound, and the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad transported him to Overlook Hospital.
