The Weekender: Final Days of Summer

What's there to do in and around town this weekend.

With summer winding to a close and the school year looming, it's time to seize these last summer moments. This weekend there are plenty of events to give you that chance.

Saturday morning there will be a guided southern circular hike on the Elmdale Trail in South Mountain Reservation brought to you by the South Mountain Conservancy. Participants should meet at the Elmdale Parking Area, which is .3 miles north of Glen Avenue on Brookside Drive and 1.4 miles south of South Orange Avneue. Be prepared to walk four to five miles at a moderate pace. The hike will begin at 9:30 and should end around 12:30.

Leonard Bornstein Entertainments will be hosting a collectible sale for charity on Friday and Saturday. After renovating their offices after 40 years, they have much to sell including vintage games, old newspapers, magazines from 1898 to 1915, scripts and more. The sale is 4-7  p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds will go to Arts Unbound, a charity based in Orange.

There will be a story and crafts event for children aged 4-6 years old on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Millburn Public Library. Children will be read a story and will do a fun crafts project. No registration is required, but participation is limited to 15 children.

The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township will be hosting an acoustic duo with Joan Osborne and Carsie Blanton as part of their Sanctuary Concert series. Tickets at $30 for the 8 p.m. Friday show.

The NJ Dance Center in Maplewood will be hosting a dance social on Friday at 8-11 p.m.. The social will be a relaxing place to meet new people. Admission is $15.
