TikTok Challenge May Get Your Car Stolen If It's 1 Of 2 Models, Police In North Jersey Say
A viral TikTok challenge has resulted in 2 specific car models being stolen, police in North Jersey warned this week.
NORTH JERSEY — As if there aren't enough car thefts lately in North Jersey, local police are now warning that a viral challenge on TikTok and YouTube has led to an increase in thefts of Kias and Hyundais around the country.
Police said on Thursday, "The 'Kia Challenge' shows social media users how to steal certain Kia and Hyundai models with a few basic items.' "
The two automakers have even offered free security upgrades because of the challenge.

Police encouraged drivers to view the guidance, keep their cars locked, and call 911 or their local police headquarters if they see something suspicious.
Keeping the keys out in the kitchen may not help, either, as lately, burglars have been breaking into homes and stealing the keys, then stealing the car (such as with this Porsche in Livingston last week).
