Water Company Worker Taken to Hospital

He was feeling lightheaded after adding chemicals at the Canoe Brook facility, according to a fire department report.

A worker at New Jersey American Water was taken to the hospital after chemicals made him feel lightheaded early Saturday morning.

The worker was feeling lightheaded after adding Potassium Progomate, which is a dark gray powder, to a 150-200 gallon container several times during his shift at the Canoe Brook plant on John F. Kennedy Parkway, according to a Millburn Fire Department report. The report states it is unusual because the process is done often during the warm months and the product is not considered dangerous. The incident was reported at just before 4 a.m.

The Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad took the worker to Overlook Hospital. New Jersey American Water officials said the worker was released and is fine and they are looking into the problem.
