Woman Taken to Hospital After Route 24 Crash

Also, firefighters battle a brush fire and respond when Halloween decorations caught fire.

One woman was taken to the hospital after a car crash reported on Friday afternoon on Route 24 west.

The woman was trapped after a three-car crash, and firefighters needed to free her by removing the driver side door with the Jaws of Life, according to a Millburn Fire Department report. She was disoriented and had cuts, according to the report.

The car had been t-boned on the passenger side, and the air bags deployed, according to teh report.

The Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad transported the woman to the hospital. A Medivac helicopter had been requested to the scene, but emergency workers determined it was not needed before it arrived.

Brush Fire Reported on Highland Avenue

Firefighters doused a brush fire on Highland Avenue on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters found a 20-square-foot area of leaves and pine needles on fire when they responded at about 3:10 p.m., according to a Millburn Fire Department report. A second engine was called to the scene because of mechanical issues, and firefighters used a water can, brush broom and pitch fork to contain and begin to extinguish the fire, according to the report. The fire was fully extinguished once the second engine arrived.

Firefighters were on scene until just before 3:50 p.m.

Halloween Decorations Catch Fire on Baltrusol

Halloween decorations caught fire on Sunday on Baltrusol Way, but the fire was out before firefighters arrived.

The deocrations—netting over the front porch—were too close to a decorative illumination torch, according to a Millburn Fire Department report. Firefighters responded at about 7:50 p.m., but the fire was out before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters checked for any possible extension of the fire, but found no problems, according to the report. They did find extension cords that were damaged because of the fire, and firefighters removed them.

Workers Strike Gas Line on Bruce Path

Workers digging a hole at a Bruce Path home struck a gas line on Saturday.

The gas line was six to eight inches under the ground, and someone struck it while digging a hole with a hand shovel, according to a Millburn Fire Department report.

A neighboring house was evacuated for a short while because of the air blowing in that direction, but readings show there was no gas in either home, according to the report.

Firefighters were on scene from just after 4 p.m. until about 5:30 p.m., which was when PSE&G workers arrived.
