2 Wounded In NJ Shooting; Montclair, East Orange Victims Hospitalized

Two people were wounded in a shooting that took place in Montclair, authorities said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Two people were wounded in a shooting that took place in Montclair on Friday evening, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, officers responded to Mission Street and Bloomfield Avenue at 5:49 p.m. after getting a report about gunfire in the area.

The officers found two people at the scene, both suffering from gunshot wounds to the lower body. The first victim, a 43-year-old male from East Orange, suffered gunshot wounds to his right hip, thigh and calf. The second victim, a 32-year-old male from Montclair, suffered a single gunshot wound to his left calf, police said.

Montclair EMS workers treated both victims at the scene and transported them to University Trauma Center in Newark for treatment.

According to police, witnesses said they saw a grey or silver minivan in the area before the shooting.

“A preliminary investigation suggests that the shooter was inside of the minivan and fled northbound on Mission Street before fleeing east on Bloomfield Avenue,” authorities said.
