Achievement Gap: Panel to Hold Public Meeting in Montclair

The Montclair’s Achievement Gap Advisory Panel (AGAP) will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, June 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the George Inness Annex Atrium, 141 Park St.
During the meeting, the panel will present a series of recommendations that its members have developed over the past year to close the achievement gap in the Montclair Public Schools.
The event is open to the public.

According to a release, the panel, comprised of community leaders, educators and parents, was “created to identify gaps in opportunity, expectations and achievement among students of different backgrounds and identify strategies to ensure that Montclair Public Schools prepare all of our children to maximize their full potential whatever their race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status.”
In addition to revealing its recommendations to address Montclair’s achievement gap, the event will also:

- Showcase the overall purpose of the panel
- Provide context to the process, methodology, and composition of those who served on the panel
- Review the scope and scale of the disparities within the school district
- Provide a frame of reference and perspective to the specific goals, strategies and priorities that will be outlined
- Create a vision of how these outcomes will benefit the Montclair community
The forum is a follow-up to the community sharing forums that were held in October.
Prior to the event, from 6 to 6:45 p.m., community partners will be on hand to share resources on avoiding the summer slide, summer programs and other enrichment opportunities.
