Couple Leaves Dogs In Car; Montclair Firefighters Enter Vehicle

Montclair firefighters entered a Maryland couple's car out of concern for two dogs believed to be in distress, authorities said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair firefighters entered a Maryland couple’s car out of concern for two dogs believed to be in distress on Saturday, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from Maryland left two, small dogs inside their parked vehicle on Plymouth Street while they went to a nearby restaurant to eat.

Montclair police and fire crews were called to the scene, and out of a belief that the dogs seemed to be “in distress,” firefighters entered the couple’s vehicle. It appears the dogs weren’t injured, police said.

Montclair animal control officers and the NJSPCA are conducting an investigation, police stated.
