Customer Used Fake $50 Bills At Montclair Coffeehouse, Bakery: Police

A pastry-hungry patron passed off phony bills at two local businesses in Montclair, authorities say.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A pastry-hungry patron passed off counterfeit $50 bills at two local businesses in Montclair last week, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Police Department, two businesses on Bloomfield Avenue had a customer that used phony bills to make purchases on March 25.

Employees at Qahwah House said a man entered the business and bought a pastry, paying for it with a counterfeit $50 bill.

The same man left the restaurant and walked east on Bloomfield Avenue, entering Tous les Jours shortly afterwards. Again, he bought a pastry – using a fake $50 to pay for it, police said.

An employee at one of the businesses told police that the man was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black jacket, camouflage pants and black “Air Jordan” sneakers.
