Montclair Cyberattack Update: Some Info ‘Compromised,’ Report Says

Some Montclair residents and town employees recently got letters saying their info was compromised during last year's "cyber incident."

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The ramifications from 2023’s cyberattack on Montclair Township continue to be felt a year later, a report says.

The scammers hit Montclair’s information technology department prior to last year’s primary election. The Township of Montclair’s insurer eventually negotiated a settlement of $450,000 with the people behind the “cyber incident” in order to end the attack. Multiple residents and township employees got letters last week advising them that their personal information was compromised during the incident. Some letters said the recipients’ financial account numbers, driver’s license numbers or social security numbers had been either "accessed and/or acquired," NorthJersey.com reported.
