Montclair Looks To Fill Empty Town Council Seat, Meeting Scheduled
Peter Yacobellis resigned last week. Now, his peers on the Montclair Town Council must decide on a replacement.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Who will fill the empty seat left by former councilman Peter Yacobellis? That’s a question the Montclair Town Council will pick up this week.
The council is scheduled to hold a special meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. in the council chambers at 205 Claremont Avenue. The goal? To discuss a resolution to fill the vacancy left in Yacobellis’ departure.
Yacobellis was elected to an at-large seat in 2020. He resigned last week – effective immediately – citing plans to “take a sabbatical and move out to Washington state for the next year and give myself a chance to reset and pursue some other passions.”

“I am recommending Dr. Renee Baskerville for the council vacancy,” Russo wrote, adding that the former Montclair councilwoman and 2020 mayoral candidate would add diversity, “experience and integrity” to the dais.
