Montclair Mostly Outage-Free After Storm Passes Through NJ

Heavy rains were still in the forecast for Monday across much of New Jersey, including Montclair.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The power was working in Montclair on Monday morning, except for a few scattered outages, after Tropical Storm Henri passed through New Jersey.

On Sunday, the storm didn’t have the power that some forecasters predicted. But some Essex County municipalities, such as Newark, saw serious flooding from the rainfall that came with it.

Rain is also expected Monday, but forecasters say skies should be clear on Tuesday – although the humidity will be high. See the local weather forecast for the week here.

Montclair public safety officials had warned residents about potential heavy rains and high winds, reminding them to stay away from downed power lines and report them to PSE&G. The town didn’t see any major outages on Sunday, however, and on Monday morning, there were only two outages affecting less than five customers, according to PSE&G’s online map.

Storm preparations and “weather-related issues” impacted some commuters in the Montclair area.

For NJ Transit rail commuters, Montclair-Boonton train #6233, the 10:29 a.m. departure from New York Penn Station, was canceled due to crew availability resulting from “earlier weather-related issues,” officials said.

On Friday, in an “abundance of safety” for residents and surrounding buildings, a crane erecting the new midtown parking deck lowered its boom to the ground, temporarily blocking the roadway.
