Montclair Schools Draft Budget Released For 2016-17

See what capital projects are planned for Hillside, MHS, Renaissance and the district's athletic fields.

Montclair, NJ – Montclair Public School District administrators unveiled a $118.9 million proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year last week.

During a March 14 Board of Education meeting, administrators stated that the draft budget would mean a $370 tax increase (about 4 percent) for a local homeowner with a property valued at $504,269.

There would be a $4,217,590 increase to the local school tax levy, or about four percent, school administrators stated.

The proposed budget has a $14.1 million working capital allowance for 2016-17, and a $9.7 million allowance for 2017-18.

Proposed projects include:

  • Roofing/Ceiling Remediation at Hillside
  • “Instructional Program and Classroom Upgrades and/or Renovations” at Hillside (STEAM/Makerspace Programs), MHS (Food Science Program and Classroom Upgrades) and George Inness (Science Room Upgrades)
  • Potential Building Addition (Renaissance Gymnasium)
  • “Athletic Field Renovations” at Woodman, Fortunato, Watchung and Renaissance Fields
