NJ Transit bus service and limited train service is expected to restart on Tuesday after a severe blizzard walloped the state last weekend.
The agency announced a temporary suspension of its bus, light rail, and Access Link services at 6 p.m. on Sunday due to the blizzard. Rail service was suspended at 9 p.m. The move was done out of an abundance of caution for the safety of customers and employees, officials said.

As of Monday afternoon, all rail, bus and Access Link services remained suspended.
“Crews continue clearing train station platforms, parking lots and other rail infrastructure,” NJ Transit reported around 4 p.m. “Bus and Access Link personnel continue with snow removal at garages and facilities, while continuing to monitor roadway conditions to determine a safe resumption time.”

Some light rail service eventually returned ahead of the Monday evening rush hour:
- Newark Light Rail and River LINE resumed service at 4 p.m., operating on Sunday schedules
- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) resumed service at 6 p.m., operating on a weekend schedule
TUESDAY RESTORATIONS
Gov. Mikie Sherrill has since announced that all three light rail lines, bus service, and Access Link service will operate on a regular weekday schedule Tuesday.
NJ Transit bus service will resume at 4 a.m., and the Port Authority Bus Terminal will be reopening as normal at 5:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, NJ Transit rail service will resume Tuesday on a holiday schedule – with a few adjustments:
- Morristown, Gladstone & Montclair-Boonton Lines - Operating on a Presidents’ Day schedule with all Midtown Direct service to Penn Station New York diverted to Hoboken. Cross honoring in Hoboken will be in effect with PATH (to 33rd St.), NY Waterway Ferry (to Midtown/W39th St.) and NJ Transit 126 bus as part of the Portal Cutover adjustments.
- Pascack Valley Line and Main-Bergen & Port Jervis Lines - Operating as scheduled on a Presidents’ Day schedule
- Atlantic City Rail Line - Operating on a regular weekday schedule
- Northeast Corridor - Operating on a Presidents’ Day schedule with the following adjustments: Northeast Corridor trains will operate between Trenton and Metropark, then express to Newark Penn Station for travel to Secaucus and Penn Station New York. Trains will not make local stops between Metropark and Newark.
- North Jersey Coast Line & Raritan Valley Line - Service will remain suspended on these lines.

TRAINS WITHOUT PASSENGERS
NJ Transit noted that during a service suspension, customers may see trains operating. However, those cars are operating without passengers to keep overhead wires and tracks free of snow and ice.
“Motorists should always abide by railroad crossing gates and pedestrians should only cross at designated pedestrian crossings even during a service suspension, as equipment may continue to move throughout the railroad,” authorities said.
