MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair’s reputation as an artsy hotspot in Essex County is about to get a little deeper when the 2018 Montclair Literary Festival kicks off on Thursday.

More than 90 authors will take part in 50 events over four days at the 2018 festival, including ticketed events with Patti Smith, Tom Perrotta, Anna Quindlen, Meg Wolitzer and Christina Baker Kline. There will also be a full program of free book talks, panel discussions, author signings, workshops and children’s activities.

The 2018 festival runs from Thursday, March 15 to Sunday, March 18. Events take place at Montclair State University, Montclair Public Library, First Congregational Church and the Montclair Art Museum.

One of this year’s hottest festival items proved to be the event with Smith, which no longer has individual tickets available. Smith plans to speak with guitarist, composer, and writer Lenny Kaye, and read from her latest book, “Devotion (Why I Write).” The duo also plans to play music from their long-term collaboration, event organizers said.

The 2017 festival highlights included a sold-out event with Trevor Noah in conversation at Montclair State University and distinguished New Jerseyan Paul Auster reading from his Man Booker Prize short-listed novel "4 3 2 1."
