From the Sidelines: Mr.Christie Comes to Montville
Everybody that was anybody at the big event.
I don't think there is a more friendly place for Governor Christie to come to than Montville Township, Morris County.
The 800 people who showed up proved it. The only negative question I heard from the crowd was actually more about a 12 percent increase in local Property Taxes from one person which of course had more to do with local Government than the Governor.
Governor Christie put on quite a show. He was as you would expect confident in front of a completely friendly crowd and had laugh lines a plenty. When he had no answer as he did with a Tower Line question, he told the person he would have the head of the BPU call personally. Such is the power of the Governor's office.

He took a couple of shots at the Democrats which were well recieved and a couple of comments about "choices" in November which should raise a question or two as he was in a non-profit religious venue but generally he stuck to a Townhall format.
He spent a good deal of time talking about shared services. That was interesting to me because Montville Township has been sharing a number of services with othe communities for years. Our Health Officer also provides health services for Mountain Lakes and we provide Animal Control services to Boonton Township. We have Mutual Aid agreements in place.

However a pet peeve of mine is that if the Legislature and the Governor are going to withhold State Aid based on a lack of shared services then they ought to lead by example. Right in the front row of the audience were Assembly Members DeCroce and Webber. For decades the Representatives of the 26th district (Senate and Assembly) shared a common office. They do essentially the same work for the same constituents. They shared staff and officespace. It worked fine until Senator Pennachio decided he wanted his own office and just happened to have the Taxpayers pay for an office leased from a politically active local Republican.
It is a small item moneywise but an examply of how our Legislators do as I tell you not as I do attitude.
