Honey Bees and the Responsible Use of Pesticides

The Montville Township Environmental Commission will host a presentation, “Honey Bees and the Responsible Use of Pesticides, on Monday, June 16th at 7 pm at the Montville Library. The speaker will be Landi Simone, who currently maintains about 100 to 150 colonies of honey bees in ten apiaries in the Pine Brook, Towaco, Montville and Boonton Township.  The presentation will include the effects of pesticides on the local honey bee population, and a discussion of beekeeping and apiaries (bee yards) in the Montville area. Landi is a certified Master Beekeeper, and is an active member of the New Jersey Beekeepers Association. She is also a past-president of the Essex County Beekeepers Society.

Landi owns and operates Gooserock Farm, located in Montville on the shores of Gooserock Pond. The farm produces raw, minimally filtered local honey using natural means. The beeswax harvested from its colonies goes to make fine, hand-crafted creams, soaps, lip balms, candles and other crafts.
