Missing Hackettstown Woman Found by Police in New York City

Krysten Mendez was missing from her home for more than four days.

The Hackettstown woman who left her home on Easter morning and was reported missing the following day has been located by police in New York City.

Hackettstown Police released a message Thursday night around 8:40 p.m. stating Krysten Mendez, 24, of Sharp Street, had been located by New York City police and was unharmed.

Mendez left her home on Sunday, April 5, with two large bags and the clothes on her back. On Tuesday, police traced her cell phone to the Briarwood section of Queens and that it had been used around 12:30 p.m. that day.

Just before 1 a.m. Thursday, one of Mendez’s relatives received a call from the missing woman, and explained she was lost and scared, police said. At the time, Mendez said she was riding the “J” train, which runs between lower Manhattan and Queens, with stops in Brooklyn.

In its press release, Hackettstown police thanked the community and other agencies who provided assistance in locating Mendez.
