Missing Hackettstown Woman Tells Relative She's 'Lost, Upset' in Midnight Phone Call, Cops Say

Krysten Mendez left her home at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday and is being traced to New York City.

The Hackettstown woman who went missing from her home on Easter morning made contact with a relative early Thursday, police said, and is “lost and upset.”

Krysten Mendez, 24, made contact with a family member sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. Thursday, April 9, and said she was on the “J” train in New York City, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

The recipient of the call, a relative, said Mendez stated she was “lost and upset,” Tynan said.

The New York Police Department has been notified, Tynan said. Due to her mental impairment, anyone who locates Mendez is not to approach her and to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Police have asked anyone who may have been on the “J” train during that time period and may have saw something to contact police.

The “J” train runs between lower Manhattan and Queens with stops in Brooklyn.

Mendez’s cell phone was traced to the Briarwood section of Queens after it was used around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Mendez left her Sharp Street home just after 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 5, with two large bags and the clothes on her back.

Mendez is described as a white female, 5 foot 4 inches tall, 194 pounds, black eyes, black hair, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, red shorts, and a silver ring on each hand.

Anyone with information regarding Mendez’s whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1 or Hackettstown Police at 908-852-3300.
