Waterloo
Village – Then and Now
” is the subject of the next “Glimpses of the Past
History Series” at the Montville
Township Historical Society’s program, May 12 (Monday), 7:30 p.m. in the Montville Township Senior House, 356 Main, Montville.

Andrea Proctor, Waterloo Resource
Interpretive Specialist
, will speak on Waterloo Village as to
what it is, what changes have occurred there and what is happening now.  A village rebirth is happening there now, due
to efforts of the state and the Canal Society of NJ.

Waterloo
Village is located on the Musconetcong River, near Stanhope, New Jersey, on the
border of Sussex and Morris counties. The village’s history began with Native
Americans, which was followed by a pre-Revolutionary iron town, a Morris Canal
town, and a Victorian village, with an active United Methodist Church that
opened in 1859.

include boat rides on the canal and guided tours of all the open buildings.

The Canal Society is actively
working to extend the boundaries of the National Register of Historic Places
