Suspects At Large After 2 Shot Dead In Burlington Co. Parking Lot: Prosecutor

The suspects fled the scene in a Jeep, which later crashed in another town, authorities said.

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two men were fatally shot Wednesday night outside a Burlington County convenience store, authorities said. The suspects remain at-large.

The men were shot around 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven and Valero Gas Station at Route 130 northbound and Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown Township, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

The unidentified suspects fled the scene in a Jeep, which later crashed in Florence Township, said Joel Bewley, a prosecutor's office spokesperson.

They remain at large as of noon Thursday.

"At this stage of the investigation, it is believed that this was not a random attack," Bewley said.

After the shooting, a 22-year-old victim walked inside the store and requested help, authorities said. He collapsed outside and died.

The other victim — a 21-year-old man — died after being taken to a Trenton hospital.

Authorities withheld the victims' names on Thursday morning.

Bewley indicated that there are multiple suspects, but it's unclear whether investigators know how many are involved.

Initial reports from other news outlets that one victim had been stabbed were inaccurate, and the information didn't come from the prosecutor's office, Bewley said.

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident with the Bordentown Township and Florence Township police departments. State Police are assisting.

Bordentown Township Mayor Eric Holliday said local officials are working closely with law enforcement.

"We want to thank our officers and first responders for their swift and professional response," Holliday said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragic event."
