Book discussion

The novel, "Heat and Dust" by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala is set in colonial India during the 1920s. It tells the story of a young Englishwoman suffocated by the propriety and social constraints of her position as the wife of an important English civil servant and drawn into the spell of the Nawab, a minor Indian prince. Her conflict between cultures is detailed in this powerful novel which won the Booker Prize in 1975.
