Suzanne Purtee has been Organist & Choirmaster of the Church of the Nativity in Huntsville, Alabama for five years. She directs an extensive choir program and concert series for this historic church community. This June the adult choir will travel overseas and sing in Gloucester, Bristol, and Canterbury Cathedrals. The choir has enjoyed singing in the National Cathedral, Grace Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. James, and the Church of St. Mary the Virgin during Suzanne's tenure.
Prior to her life in the rocket city, Suzanne was Organist and Music Director at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill, for ten years, where she maintained an extensive choir program and concert series.
Suzanne is currently Dean of the Greater Huntsville AGO, (a third term) previously having had the privilege of serving as Dean of the SouthWest Jersey AGO. Professional credits include degrees in music from the University of Kansas, where she studied organ with James Higdon, McGill University, studying organ with John Grew, and Duke University, focusing on musicology and Early Music performance practice (vocal and keyboard). A lifelong student, Suzanne has used her time away from work to study conducting with Robert Page, Simon Carrington, William Weinert, and Anton Armstrong. Since moving to Alabama Suzanne has acquired a beautiful French double harpsichord built by Anden Houben.
