Garbage Truck Fire Outside South Jersey High School Contained

Students at the school were sheltered as a precaution.

A garbage truck fire outside Shawnee High School in Medford has been contained, Medford Police said Thursday morning.

Crews remain on the scene, but police said it appears the trash load itself caught fire. The driver was able to escape the truck without being injured.

The fire was first reported around 10:45 a.m., at which time the intersection of Tabernacle and Bear roads were closed. Students were sheltered in the school as a precaution.
