Garden State Girlchoir and New Jersey Boychoir
Will Begin First Full Season in Residence at Rowan University
The Garden State Girlchoir (GSG) and the New Jersey Boychoir (NJB), which last Spring made their performance debut with none other than the Philadelphia Orchestra, will now be in residence at Rowan University (RU). Additional rehearsal locations for the groups are in Moorestown, Cherry Hill and Riverton, NJ.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with South Jersey’s very first boychoir and girlchoir,” says RU Director of Choral Studies, Dr. Chris Thomas. “Thanks to the extraordinary vision of Artistic Director Steve Fisher, instead of young people in the region now having to cross a bridge to make music of the highest calibre, they will experience the pride of singing in a top notch choir of their own state. In addition, RU music majors will have an opportunity to be involved as interns, offering them invaluable real-life experience with community-based children’s choirs.”

Auditions are taking place now for the upcoming season. All interested third through eighth graders are encouraged to attend the Open House on Saturday, September 30 at 9:00am regardless of their prior singing experience. “If a boy or girl hasn’t found their singing voice, we’ll help them find it,” says Artistic Director Steve Fisher. “What most people don’t realize is singing is like riding a bike. Everyone can do it if someone teaches them. Once that happens, the skies the limit. Singers in the Garden State Girlchoir and New Jersey Boychoir will have their lives transformed through the power of making music together.” A concert tour is planned for this summer.
Garden State Girlchoir and New Jersey Boychoir are part of the Commonwealth Youthchoirs (CY) family, including the Keystone State Boychoir, the Pennsylvania Girlchoir, Find Your Instrument!, and Good Mornin’ Music!, Serving over 700 children, CY is the largest youth choral organization in the region.
