The Green Giant Comes to Moorestown

Don't miss Sustainable Moorestown's first annual Green Fair and community rummage sale this Saturday at the Strawbridge Lake Playground

Fun and innovative green education stations and demos combine with the ultimate recycling event—a giant community rummage sale—at Sustainable Moorestown’s first annual Green Fair.

The Green Giant takes place on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Strawbridge Lake Playground on Haines Drive just off of South Church Street in Moorestown.

Presented by Sustainable Moorestown in collaboration with community non-profit organizations and Bethel AME church groups, the Green Giant offers a great opportunity to find recycled treasures and must-haves at the rummage sale.

It also offers opportunities to learn about new ways to go green, including a fleet of hybrid and electric cars from Holman Automotive Group and Tesla, solar and wind energy displays, Burlington County recycling do’s and don’ts, and much more.

Kids with an interest in science will want to experience the NASA Geoscience Remote Sensing Lab, on loan to Palmyra Cove Environmental Education Foundation from Rowan College at Burlington County, and facilitated at the Green Fair by Palmyra Cove’s Director of Education, Peter Dorofy.

Looking for “green art?” Perkins Center for the Arts will run one of their popular “seconds” pottery sales at the event, and MoorArts is offering a free repurposed craft activity for kids.

Information stations and demos will be presented by STEM, Moorestown Improvement Association, Moorestown Tree Commission, Moorestown Environmental Advisory Committee, and the Moorestown Police Department. Green family activities and food vendors round out the event.

“The Green Giant is a great opportunity for residents to have fun and find out about the many ways we can improve our community through individual actions. From buying recycled or repurposed items, to discovering ways to participate in sustainable initiatives, to learning about local organizations that are making a positive impact on the community, the Green Giant is a don’t-miss event,” Sustainable Moorestown President, Wolf Skacel said.

Sustainable Moorestown’s ”Green Team” Committee will be at the fair with information about their initiatives in town, such as the green roof they installed on top of Moorestown’s Town Hall.

Sustainable Moorestown is part of Sustainable Jersey, a nonprofit organization that provides tools, training and financial incentives to support communities as they pursue sustainability programs designed to reduce waste, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and improve environmental equity.

Initiated in 2012, Sustainable Moorestown initiatives, including collaboration with township departments and community non-profit organizations, have earned Moorestown “Silver” status in the Sustainable Jersey umbrella organization, whose mission is to empower communities to build a better world for future generations.
