Healey Concedes To Kim In NJ-3 After Mercer County Results Come In

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Business executive Bob Healey conceded the race for New Jersey's 3rd Congressional district to sitting Democrat Andy Kim on Wednesday evening.
Kim celebrated re-election to his third term in U.S. Congress on Tuesday night in one of the most closely-watched races in New Jersey. The Associated Press called the race for Kim at 11 p.m. on election night.
Unofficial results show Kim netted 131,620 votes in the reconfigured 3rd District. Healey, who is an executive at a South Jersey yachtmaker, received 106,080 votes as of Wednesday afternoon.

“I believe we can heal this country,” Kim told supporters. “I believe it’s possible. What I don’t believe is, I don’t believe my kids are doomed to grow up in a divided America. What is happening right now doesn’t have to be this way.”
Tuesday night, Healey urged supporters to "stay tuned" for vote results from Mercer County, which had widespread issues with votingon Election Day. Healey congratulated Kim on Wednesday night, thanking his supporters.

Mercer County last updated its election results website at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday, with all districts partially reported. NJ-3 includes the Mercer County municipalities of East Windsor, Hamilton, Hightstown, Lawrence, and Robbinsville.
"While this was certainly not the outcome we were hoping for, I am proud of the campaign that we put forward and the incredible team we assembled," said Healey on Wednesday. "Getting to speak with tens of thousands of people throughout Burlington, Mercer, and Monmouth Counties has only reaffirmed for me my calling for service. Our conversations, and their lasting impact on me, will not be forgotten."
Healey said he stands ready to work with Kim "together toward common goals like reducing inflation and keeping our communities safe."
AP results show 17,775 Mercer County votes for Healey, and 10,366 for Healey as of Wednesday evening.
Voters in Monmouth County chose Healey over Kim by 32,862 votes to 24,271 according to Associated Press tabulations. The 3rd Congressional District includes the Monmouth municipalities of Allentown, Englishtown, Freehold Borough, part of Freehold Township, Holmdel, Manalapan, Marlboro, Millstone, Roosevelt, and Upper Freehold.
Almost all Burlington County municipalities are in NJ-3. Burlington County voters cast 89,586 votes for Kim and 62,852 for Healey, per the AP.
Independent candidates Christopher Russomanno and Gregory Sobocinski gained 1,177 and 1,001 votes respectively, results show.
Kim made headlines in the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol when colleagues and others found him helping clean up the mess around the building. The Congressman celebrated privately with his family Tuesday night before appearing before supporters, a news release from his office said.
“It’s always humbling to see my name on a ballot. Serving the district where my parents raised my sister and I, where I did my K-12 education in our excellent public school system, and now where I’m raising my boys and sending them to school, has been the honor of my life,” said Kim in a statement. “I’m honored and feel incredibly privileged to have been elected to serve this district in Congress for another two years. I look forward to fighting to continue bringing down healthcare costs, getting our infrastructure investments on track, and working toward a politics that is rooted in service and civility. Our future is bright and I look forward to representing this district with humility and service.”
